6 Ways You're Damaging Your Curly Extensions 😰

#1: Too Much Shampoo

Too much shampoo can strip your curly extensions of moisture. We suggest co-washing with cold water in between wears as much as possible. If a shampoo is necessary due to product build up, condition first, then shampoo, then condition again. Remember to only use sulfate & paraban free shampoo and conditioner and cold water as hot water can make your extensions more prone to tangles. If you have semi permanent extensions and your lifestyle requires you to wash your hair more than twice a week we highly suggest switching to clip-ins extensions.

#2: Using Harsh Products

Don't be fooled! Some "expensive salon quality" products can be too harsh for your extensions. We don't recommend using clarifying shampoo more than once every 4-6 weeks. We also don't recommend OVER USING protein based systems (IE: Olaplex, Hair conditioning repair products) on your extensions. See our product recommendation page for products we love!

#3: No Hydration

Curly hair alone is prone to dryness. Extensions are also prone to dryness. CURLY EXTENSIONS can be very prone to dryness. Make sure you're using a moisturizing & hydrating products AND oil serum to moisturize so your extensions are super dry & thirsty which results in tangling and matting. We love Argon oil hair serum to keep extensions hydrated.

#4: You Don't Vacation Responsibly

The chemicals in the chlorine and salt from the ocean can dry out your extensions. YES you can swim in your extensions as long as you are disciplined enough to wash & condition your hair IMMEDIATELY after EVERY TIME and FULLY DRY. Swimming excessively will cause damage to your extensions. All pools are not created equal, some have more chlorine and some have less and we can't promise your extensions won't be ruined. To be safe, we don't recommend taking the chances of swimming with your new investment. We highly suggest you opt for clip-in extensions during vacation as you can remove them before swimming.

#5: You're Air Drying Your Extensions

Cuticles on your hair extensions lift when washing your hair. To seal your cuticles closed its vital to FULLY dry your extensions using a diffuser or hooded dryer (best for semi permanent extensions). Raised cuticles causes friction and will cause hair to tangle. Thicker weft extensions can take even longer to dry to make sure you're up for the full process before starting your wash day.

#6: Your Night Time Routine

For semi permanent extensions, make sure your install is fully dry at the root & weft before going to bed and braid your extensions in 2 low braids under a satin bonnet.
